The girl’s Varsity Volleyball beat the Baker ladies on what turned out to be an immense win, on Sept. 12, at the Pritzker gymnasium.
As the clock hit starting time, the ladies began to practice their routine. From practicing serves and spiking balls, none of the girls knew what to expect from this game. The ladies began the first game by beating Baker with a total score of 25-7, making it a very easy game. Second game rolling around, the lady Jaguars were not gonna let their good scoring streak fall. Pritzker, yet again, defeated Baker with total 25-3.
On the second game, senior Zyanya Acosta did what volleyball players call “jousting,” where two players go for the ball at the same time, and only one player manages to get it to the other side. Also on the second game, a series of bump, set, and spike combinations were common. The team had definitely solidified the win with their spikes. Diamond Josephs, a junior playing her third year in the volleyball team, said that the team had “great spikes” and an outstanding amount of positivity.
Starr Lewis, a junior, says that when playing teams like baker, “[the players] are able to utilize all the skills [they] work on in practice,” due to the slow pace of the game. Lewis describes feeling “confident,” throughout the game, which also, according to Lewis is “the best way to play.”
Giovanna Bautista, a senior on varsity, expressed that she, too, felt very confident about how the game played out. “Our team pulled through and we maintained communication and energy going. We keep each other accountable, and we support one another,” explained Bautista.
Josephs describes feeling “accomplished” with the performance of the team. And so, just like Josephs, we all feel very proud of our Lady Jaguars.
