Do you want to be the next king of games? Well of course you do, if you know what it means. This year, the first ever Yu-Gi-Oh! club was created, which became a hit instantly.
We all have had to play Yu-Gi-Oh! once in our life, even if you have no idea what it is about. If you haven’t played, start playing. When you first hear of the club, you think all they might do is play cards, but it turns out it’s much more than that.
According to Armando Garcia, the senior who started the club, “We get to know different type of people, we play with people we don’t know to get to know them and later on we communicate with no worries.” It turns out that the main activity they do in the club is both Yu-Gi-Oh! and just meeting new people to play with. Communication turns out to be a relevant factor in the game. Who would have known!
When talking to Armando, I told him that when I thought of Yu-Gi-Oh!, it reminded me of third or fourth grade, it turns out that wasn’t true, it was more of a stereotype toward the game. He responded, “There are a lot of teenagers playing, there are actually tournaments where adults play. There is no certain age to stop playing.” Indeed he was right, when he first started the club, he stated how he had 32 people. You only need six people to start a club! I regretted asking that question.
Just for the people who don’t know Yu-Gi-Oh!, there’s cards with effects, and cards with no effects. The cards with effects tell you what that card can do. It also has an attack which tells you how strong it is and the defence. Basically, the higher the level the better the card. It also turns you that you need thinking and math skills in order to play the game.
The club meets every Wednesday after school from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to play some Yu-Gi-Oh! and just relax. The club actually inspired some people to start their own club due to the type of club Yu-Gi-Oh! is. Freshman Julio Herrera expressed how he wanted to start a Black Ops club, but I doubt we’ll be able to shoot zombies in school.
So far the club has been a success and seems to be very enjoyable to the people who are in it. This club might have started a new type of clubs coming our way.
