For those of you who are new at Pritzker, or even never heard of the boy’s rugby team, you probably do not know that the sport will be making a return after the one-year suspension issued by the Noble Network due to fighting. The boys’ rugby team will be coached by Liam Lawson, who is the alumni coordinator.
The incident happened two years ago that included all the players, staff, and even some parents watching from the sidelines. “It was a madhouse. Everything was out of control, and I did not know what to do,” expressed Nathaniel Mercado, who is a senior at Pritzker. The scene sounded like it was from a gladiator movie. “Everything was so intense and there was a bunch of yelling. I didn’t know how to react because everything happened too fast. I thought there was a missed call by the referees, but it escalated into something more than that. I’ve never seen anything like it before,” declared Melinda Hernandez, who is a senior.
The punishment for both teams was a one year suspension. The rugby season would continue to go on for other Noble campuses, however. “I don’t really know why I did the things I did. I was just so full of adrenaline that I couldn’t think straight. I felt like he was out to hurt me, so I defended myself. After that, I don’t know what was going on,” started Yoluis Chamorro, who is a senior, and a big reason as to why the fight started. Chamorro also regrets the incident and wish things ended differently. He also stated that his actions were childish.
Now that the suspension is over, the Pritzker boys are ready to take their throne back from where they left off.
Just a couple of weeks ago, the boys started conditioning for the tough season coming up. “Rugby conditioning was really fun. It was a first time for me, and I really enjoyed myself,” explained Gustavo Marquez, who is a senior. Marquez isn’t the only one that is excited for the return. “I’m so pumped for the season. I can’t wait,” explained Walter Caldwell, who is a senior. Caldwell also stated how he wants to go all out this season the make up for the football season.
The anticipation for the season is highly in the air because tons of the seniors are talking about joining. “I am interested into going to the rugby games, and cheering on some of my best friends,” said Jorge Rivera, who is a senior.
With the rugby season shining across the horizon, the boys are ready to showcase just how ready they are to take on the competition. Be sure to go out and support the boys’ rugby team this season.
