Pritzker’s JV Boys Soccer team lost against Speer on Sept. 16 at Mansueto College Prep.

The boys’ JV lost 1-2. Sophomore Jose Cruz scored the only goal in the first half.

It was a very close game. The game was in a tie for the whole first half and most of the second half.

Speer scored the first goal only minutes after the game started. Shortly after, Cruz tied the game up. Unfortunately, the tie did not last long. Speer scored the winning goal in the second half only minutes before the game ended.

The boys played greatly and kept their heads in it throughout the whole game. Even when they were down by a goal,  they still did not get discouraged, and they continued to play their best for the remaining time left.

The game was at 10:30 a.m; the game roughly ended a little after 11:30 a.m.

Pritzker’s JV boys have been having a pretty successful season so far. They have a record of 3-2. They have defeated Johnson, Noble Street, and Intrinsic. Their losses being Muchin and Speer.

Cruz described his team “as family because they help everyone out and motivate [each other].”

Sophomore Steven Camy suggested that they had a successful season due to their cohesive team. He expressed that their team has great communication, which allows them to work well together on the field.

Furthermore, sophomore, Cristian Ortiz, expressed that he believes his team will make it far this season, hopefully finals. Ortiz has been sitting on the bench due to an injury and has been observing his team’s work. He stated, “We know when it’s time to goof around and when it’s time to get serious.” Ortiz believes this will get his team far this season.

Aside from the the team’s mature mindset, Camy also believes their hard work at practice will also get them far this season. The coaches work them very hard at practice to prepare them well for their upcoming games. They want to bring home the noble championship this year.

The boys’ JV team practices Monday through Thursday from 4-6 pm at Humboldt Park.

Their practice consists of warming up by running. Then, they stretch and do a few drills. Sometimes they play mini scrimmage games for extra preparation.

The team is coached by junior IB English teacher, Amanda Meyers, sophomore Classical Literature teacher,  Benjamin Groch, and senior College Manager and Alumni supporter, Luz Espinoza.
