Big lines formed, great pictures were taken, and new friendships were formed. This year’s homecoming dance took place on Oct. 8. The dance started at 7 and ended at 10:30 p.m.
The homecoming dance celebrated the annual homecoming game which this year was Pritzker vs. Johnson College Prep. Although the Pritzker Jaguars were defeated, students managed to still have an amazing time at homecoming with friends or their loved ones.
The DJ, Joseph Villanueva, who was a past Pritzker PE teacher and has been the DJ each year, played a variety of music such as banda, bachata, electronic, cumbia, and pop. Songs included were “Corazon Sin Cara” by Prince Royce, “Broccoli” by Lil Yachty, “Controlla” by Drake, “Work” by Rihanna ft Drake, “Teach me How to Dougie” by Cali Swag District, “Shaky Shaky” by Daddy Yankee, and so many more. Students danced among themselves as well as jumping into the middle of the circle.
Katia Gomez, a senior, said “ the homecoming dance was lit! It’s sad that it’s my last one here at Pritzker.” Gomez attended every homecoming dance ever since she was a freshman. She enjoys dancing with her friends and just loves to have a good time.
Dania Herrera, a sophomore, said “ to be my first homecoming dance I have attended, it was great! I had so much fun. I had the opportunity to dance with all my friends and of course take pictures.” Herrera expressed the fact that this dance had been one of the best dances she has attended, “ I didn’t want to leave! I wish the dance was a bit longer.”
Joshua Chamorro, a freshman, had his own views of the dance. “ I had a great time with a lot of my friends and made new ones. I think they could have played better music, but I still had fun with whatever they played,” he replied.
Yazmine Pena, a senior, replied, “It’s sad to think that we won’t attend another [homecoming], but at least it isn’t our last high school dance yet because now we have prom to look forward to.” It’s clear that the seniors are sad about it being their last homecoming, but many look forward to prom.
After a while of dancing, the 2016 homecoming court was announced. Winners for king and queen were Ismael Sanchez and Janyne Shipp. Prince and princess were Alex Maldonado and Jackie Puente. Knight and lady were Victor Dejesus and Betzy Alamo. Finally, the dutch and dutchess were Ebony Martinez and Noel Candelaria.
Those who attended the dance had a great time and did not want to leave. Everything turned out great and enjoyable. Everyone jumped to the music. Daniel Selan, seniors stats teacher, was taking pictures for those who wanted to take picture with their friends or loved one.
