GBD Cakes and Sweets was featured on Cake Wars in 2016. GBD Cakes and Sweets is a family-owned bakery, the owners are Maria Maya and Victoria Maya and they are a mother-daughter duo. They began in their own kitchen and shared their creations on social media.
In 2016 they appeared on the show Cake Wars, airs on Food Network. It is about four different bakers who compete against each other, to win 10,000 dollars and get their cake featured in a special event.
In their bakery, they sell a variety of custom sweets such as cupcakes, donuts, cheesecake, cake truffles, brownies, as well as many more small table sweets. As well as custom cakes. They have unique cupcake flavors: horchata, Mexican hot chocolate, salted dulce de leche, raspberry-filled lemon, as well as usual cupcakes and cake flavors. All their treats must be ordered in advance as well as over the phone payment.
I ordered a mini dozen cupcakes and was only allowed to choose two flavors and I chose Mexican hot chocolate and horchata. The icing was buttercream for both cupcakes. For the horchata the buttercream was vanilla swiss buttercream dusted in cinnamon sugar; the Mexican hot chocolate had chocolate buttercream.
I have never liked buttercream frosting since I am more into whipped cream. But the frosting on the horchata cupcake was the best I have ever tasted.
Some customers claimed the cake was dry and tasted almost like a pound cake; however, The cupcakes were very moist and delicious. I will probably order a cake from here for any upcoming event.
