“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”: Best cop show?

By Emanuel Mendoza ‘21

Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s most recent season, season six, has very hilarious characters and a very exciting plot.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a comedy about a group of detectives known as Jake Peralta (Andy Samber), Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), Terry Cruz, Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio), Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz), and Captain Ray(Andre Brougher) who work for the NYPD (New York Police Department). The team of detectives solve cases with a bunch of action and comedy incorporated into it.

The main character Jake Peralta is the most hilarious out of all of them. Peralta’s and his partner Charles Boyle main way of making the audience laugh is by doing and saying stupid things. Two other detectives can relate, Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker) and Scully (Joel McKinnon Miller), because they are a very odd pair when together but also the most laziest of them all. The characters in the show also make the audience laugh because of the strange activities that are done. For example, every year the team had competitions to see who is the best at something.

The plot for season six is very exciting because of the amount of action. The Pontiac Bandit (Craig Robinson), Peralta’s main nemesis, makes a return this season after Peralta’s failure to arrest him in the previous season. The Pontiac Bandit and Peralta also have a very odd relationship, which makes the show very interesting because they are basically friends but Peralta’s job is having to arrest him. A lot of the plot also has to do with the destruction of the corrupt within the NYPD. The Nine-Nine set out to use the corruption of the higher ups to their own advantage in order to save their fellow captain from getting fired.

Many didn’t believe that the switch from Fox Entertainment Company to NBC would  save the show. However, the switch brought an increase of over a million viewers than what the show originally had.
